Maximilianpark is the first renatured mine site in Germany
It is the most eastern anchor point of the Route of Industrial Heritage and is one of the most important industrial monuments in the region. The traces of the Maximilian colliery can still be found everywhere on the site. The “Maximilian” colliery’s most famous heritage is the glass elephant. This was once the coal sorting house of the colliery.
Other buildings such as the electric power station, the workshop or the old changing and wash house are wonderful witnesses of important coalmining architecture. Take a walk through the park and discover ruins and remains of the old collieries that have been reclaimed by nature.
